ShipSimple wants to ensure your shipments cross international borders seamlessly! In order for that to happen, someone has to work with customs for shipment clearance.
Customs clearance charges are due to preparation and submission of documentation required to facilitate export/imports into the country.
Customs authorities are responsible for performing a wide range of regulatory controls aimed at protecting both revenues and the security and safety, health and prosperity of country’s citizens and business as well as managing border controls.
- Customs is simply an authority or agency that resides at country level. In terms of revenue, its first responsibility is not only the collection but also the safeguarding of customs duties and taxes.
- The selected courier performs customs clearance services and manages all queries from the customs authority on your behalf. Once your goods are cleared, the courier will arrange for transit before final delivery.
In the event that the courier performs customs clearance services on shipments where Duties and Taxes are to be paid, a service charge is applied and collected on all imports of a non-document shipment for which the courier prepares a Customs entry. This is the Customs Clearance charge.
Customs Clearance charges are in addition to Duties and Taxes and will be paid directly to the courier. ShipSimple will not invoice you for Duties and Taxes, nor Customs Clearance charges. These outstanding balances need to be paid promptly in order to avoid shipment delays.
