When creating an international shipment on ShipSimple, we will walk you step-by-step through building your Commercial Invoice.
The last step in creating your Commercial Invoice is indicating if there will be any additional declaration statements, such as Certificates of Origin, attached to the shipment. As seen below:
"So, what are these additional statements & do I need one?"
Below we will include a definition for each Declaration Statement, and a link for further information.
1. CUSMA - The Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement:
A CUSMA Certificate of Origin is required when the goods being imported/exported between Canada, USA, and Mexico, have an evaluation greater than $3300.

2. EUR.1 - European Union Movement Certificate
An EUR.1 certificate is used to prove the origin of goods moving into the European Union (EU) territory. The certificate allows traders to import goods from certain countries at a reduced rate or without paying any duty.

3. CITES - Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
CITES protects wild plants or animals by setting controls on international trade so that trade will not threaten the survival of the species. Permits are required for the import or export of specimens of CITES protected species.

4. Non-Preferential Certificate of Origin
A Certificate of Origin is required by many treaty agreements for cross-border trade, the CO is an important form because it can help determine whether certain goods are eligible for import, or whether goods are subject to duties.
